Site Back Up

10 May. 2009 | Posted under: Site Maintenance Web Design

The site is back up after quite a bit of downtime. I was working on reconstructing a large portion of the site, and ended up having to shut the site down so that I could work on it without running into problems with people visiting an entirely broken website. Well, now it’s back up and running and better than ever! What’s new and different? Here, have a bulleted list (because I love those so much):

  • It looks better. I basically took the layout I had before and refined it. It’s not a total from-the-ground-up kind of thing, but it’s been heavily reconstructed and looks tons better, I think.
  • There’s actually content on the Web Design section now. Before it was pretty much nonexistent and didn’t actually show any of the work I’ve done. Now it’s done with individual pages for some of my more notable web design works.
  • The web log doesn’t use a separate wordpress installation now. There’s no notable difference on the surface between before, it’s just that now it’s a lot easier to manage because every single aspect of my site is all in one place rather than having a separate wordpress installation just for the web log.

Note:

The site is currently incompatible with Internet Explorer 6. A lot of work is going to be necessary in order to get it to look and function properly, so I decided to hold off on that for the time being. It is, however, compatible with just about every other browser I’ve tested it with, including Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, as well as Safari.

Comments Wiped

Well, it seems I’ve let comment spam get the best of me. The amount of comment spam I’ve gotten in the last few months was in the thousands. I’ve currently got Akismet running to help combat any future spam attacks. However, in an attempt to wipe out all of the thousands of existing spam comments, I seem to have accidentally deleted all of the non-spam comments as well. Oopsie.

EDIT: Strangely, posts still display the number of comments that there used to be, even though they’re gone. Pretty strange! Oh well.

Web Log section back up

As if the title of this post isn’t self-explanatory enough, the Web Log section is back up and running. I was contemplating removing it, but I thought I’d make some use of it after all. In case you’re too lazy to read my latest blog post, I’m planning on using the section to post mini-articles and map reviews. If you have a map you’d like me to review, don’t hesitate to pester me until I do so!

Spork-chan is Open for Business… Sort Of.

Okay, so this is the new home of my site, formerly known as Doom Realm. As you can probably tell, it looks quite a bit different. Why the change, you ask? Well, I ain’t gonna tell ya. Nah, I kid, I’ll tell you:

  • Domain names are nice! I wanted to get some web space of my own to do whatever I please with, and a domain name to go along with it.
  • Doom Realm wasn’t a very suitable name. I’d like to put as little emphasis on my Doom-related works as humanly possible, because quite frankly it’s not something I have any interest anymore. Instead I’d like to switch the focus over to web design and whatever other areas of work I venture into.
  • The old design was boring. I’m not saying it was ugly by any means, but I honestly did not like the color scheme (which consisted entirely of blue) at all. This is quite an improvement if I do say so myself. Besides, I had already released the template for my old design here for anybody to use.

Anyhows, please be warned that as of right now there’s no content whatsoever on the site. I’m working on that (slowly). I have other things I need to work on as well, so it’ll take some time to get everything back up and running.

Hell, there really shouldn’t be anybody browsing this site yet anyway, it’s not like I’ve been pimping it all over the place or anything. :P
